Allen Edmonds McTavish from the 2011 Rough Collection

The McTavish, part of the Allen Edmonds 2011 Rough Collection, caught our attention as being a vintage-style wingtip dress shoe with a casual flair. The waxed leather finish along with a double oak natural leather sole allow the McTavish to be worn casually with jeans, without compromising nobility. This was one of the main reasons why we really like this shoe.

Allen Edmonds was established in 1922 in Belgium, Wisconsin. The company manufactures the majority of its shoes in the United States and several pairs in Italy, making it one of only two American companies that make shoes domestically. Their 212-step handcrafted shoe construction process and partnership with Horween Leather is what makes Allen Edmonds of the best shoemaking companies today.

“This is not a throw-away shoe.”

When it comes to the McTavish, Allen Edmonds really delivers a durable shoe. The leathers used are of very high quality and the whole construction of the shoe feels very sturdy. Despite the shoe not being a Shell Cordovan, the McTavish is a very long-lasting quality wingtip oxford.

“Shell Cordovan’s done properly is a six month process.”

Interestingly enough, some of Allen Edmonds’s shoe models ‘never break’ and always remain looking new. This is because they use a Shell Cordovan manufacturing process; a process which takes 6 months, if done right.
