The hype began after last week’s release of the Dark Knight Rises trailer. The movie looks incredible, the special effects are amazing (especially the football scene) and Bane’s (Tom Hardy) coat – it seems like everyone wants one. We’ve dug up some dirt over the last few days and we’ll let you know exactly what type of coat this is and where you can get one.
Here’s the Dark Knight Rises trailer where you’ll see the coat everyone’s buzzing about.
What kind of coat is Bane wearing in Dark Knight Rises?
Bane’s coat was inspired by a WWII Swedish Army Officer coat known as the M1909 Field Coat.
The Swedes are responsible for this coat; the late 1930’s Swedish Military to be more specific. Bane’s coat was inspired by a Swedish Army Officer coat known as the M1909 Field Coat; although some modifications were made for Tom Hardy’s character.
This is the same coat that Bruce Willis wore in 12 Monkeys, and the same coat worn by Ed Harris in Enemy at the Gates. It is a very heavy, durable and warm coat – you can see why it would appeal to snipers in WWII.
What is Bane’s type of coat called and where can I buy it?
The Swedish M1909 Field Coat worn by Bane in the Dark Knight Rises film is most commonly known as a Shearling Coat.
Shearling is a sheepskin or lambskin pelt that has gone through a limited shearing process to obtain a uniform depth of the wool fibers for a uniform look and feel.
The classic M1909 Field Coat is very difficult to obtain, for now. But with the release of the Dark Knight Rises movie, we are sure to see more of these coats manufactured. Since the movie is scheduled to release in Summer 2012, we’ll probably be seeing a lot of these coats in the Winter of next year.
There are many similar designs out right now. Some with zippers, some with different colors, different types of buttons, different types of leathers/materials and pockets.
As you can see, they all hold the similar characteristics of sheepskin linings on the collar. The above are some great alternatives to the M1909 Field Coat. Check out our coat category for more inspiration.
