After a long 10-month hiatus from television, Mad Men returns to AMC for a 6th season. In celebration, Banana Republic releases their new 1960s Mad Men style collection. The spring/summer 2013 collection features tailored-fit suits jackets, pants, cardigans and shirts – alongside a few tricolor-striped ties and straw fedoras.
How does the collection match up to the Mad Men style?
Overall Banana Republic did a great job in the collection, offering solid colored and plaid prints – some more subtle than others – throughout. Our favorite has to be the multicolored two-button blanket plaid sport coat; it’s a remake of the one Don Draper wore during his parties.
“When it comes to style, it’s all about the fit.”
The collection offers tailored and slim fit non-iron shirts and cardigans, which will compliment anyone’s figure.
To be honest however, you’re not getting the finest quality with this collection, but keep in mind you’re paying a fraction of the price for something very respectable. $200 USD can get you a great looking sport coat while $535 USD can get you an entire suit. If the suit fits well, spend the additional money on a proper tailor. It’ll make the piece a favorite in your collection and it’ll definitely be worth the price.
“A good tailor can make a $100 suit look like it’s worth $1,000, and a $1,000 suit worth every penny.”
